Performed by CRSC, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling is a 3D virtual snapshot of the geometry and thermodynamic properties of the IT infrastructure. These properties include temperature, airflow, pressure, and relative humidity.

CFD provides easily interpreted images and animations of these properties to provide a better understanding of your IT infrastructure. The information gathered from a CFD analysis will be accurate to within 10% of the room’s actual conditions.

CFD takes into consideration all critical thermal aspects of the IT infrastructure operations: from raised flooring to ceiling. CFD can identify hot and cold aisle effectiveness, plenum airflow patterns, static pressure, tile airflow distributions, and much more. Thermographic images for various room cross sections and animations of the airflow patterns enhance the data’s usability by making it easy to interpret.

Benefits

  • Reduced operating costs by improving efficiency of the CRAC units
  • Reduction in capital expenses by eliminating extra cooling equipment
  • Reduction of hotspots by optimizing server, rack and CRAC placement - extending the life of your existing infrastructure

CFD allows CRSC designers to determine:

  • Location for high density equipment
  • Failure scenarios
  • Perforated tile placement
  • Growth planning
  • Preferred cooling method (ducted hot aisles in row, etc.)
